A Geographical Tour of Literary America

The Grand Tour of Literary Landmarks resulted from my students' success with another project that we called "Poetic License with THE AMAZING RACE." This new journey also begins and ends in my students' hometown. Chosen writers are specific to our curriculum and texts; however, teachers can adapt new selections to their students' needs. Side images are their original work. Photo images at each destination go directly to official sites or to the slideshows of my own travel photos. The main sources of written material here are www.Poets.org and Adventures in American Literature, Heritage Edition and Pegasus Edition.

Here are the rules.

The trip will be completed INDIVIDUALLY as homework.***

Mark your LITERARY MAP with your travels. Color ink (over pencil if you like)

Record your mileage on each journal sheet as directed.

EACH student will keep LEGIBLE individual entries in a travel journal.

DO NOT THROW AWAY any of your work!

Design your own “POETIC LICENSE” for your trip.

Mrs. Steller will give you $________________in a “pretend-traveler's check” for expenses.

You will keep a budget record of your trip expenses.

Estimate that your vehicle will get 20 MPG and that GAS will be $2.50 everywhere.

Traffic and travel violations are posted. Fines, detention, and/or after-school classroom clean-up (community service) will be your punishment.

Record any fines on your budget sheets.

Mrs. Steller will have assigned dates for checking travel journals and budget sheets.

***Some work will have already been read and completed in class. If you have kept all your work, you will have particular segments finished; however, please read the travel page for more information to complete mileage and budget entries.
